Are your products color-safe? Can I use Kavella with a straightening or smoothing treatment?
Yes. Kavella products are free of harsh sulfates like sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate that can strip color and alter treated hair. Kavella products are also pH balanced to help color stay put.
Do you use silicones?
We do not use dimethicone, the heavier coating silicone. We do not use cyclic siloxanes (such as cyclopentasiloxane or cyclomethicone), the lightweight silicones with environmental restrictions.
Where a formula uses amodimethicone, we name it on the product page. It is a silicone made to cling where hair is rough, so a little does the job. It is not dimethicone, so it washes out more easily. It is not a cyclic siloxane.
Are all your products vegan? Do you test on animals?
Yes. All Kavella products are vegan. We do not use animal by-products. We do not test on animals, and our raw material suppliers do not test those ingredients on animals either.
What is the shelf life of my Kavella product?
Most Kavella products are best within about 3 years unopened, and within about 12 months after opening for peak freshness. Past that, texture, color, or the soft note can change. Some formulas may separate if they sit a long time. That is because we leave out certain stabilizers such as PEGs. Shake to remix.
My sprayer will not spray / my foamer will not foam.
Screw the base on tightly, shake, and rinse the tip with warm water. On sprayers, also check that the lock is off. On foamers, soak the foam top in warm distilled water and pump water through it. What creates the soft almond note? Do you have options without aroma ingredients?
In most products, all-natural ingredients from plants create a light soft note of almond, cocoa, and vanilla. That note comes from named plant materials: Benzaldehyde (apricot kernel oil extract), cocoa distillate (cocoa), and vanillin (vanilla).
Clarifying uses all-natural ingredients from plants to create a light soft herbal note of lavender, rosemary, bitter orange, and thyme. That note comes from named plant materials: Lavandula Angustifolia Oil (lavender), Rosmarinus Officinalis Leaf Oil (rosemary), Citrus Aurantium Amara Oil (bitter orange), and Thymus Vulgaris Oil (thyme).
If you prefer products free of those natural aroma ingredients, choose Healing Tea Shampoo and Conditioner.
Are your products hypoallergenic?
Plant-based formulas can still bother someone with an allergy. Always check the Full ingredients on the product page. Healing Tea Shampoo and Conditioner are our gentlest pair for sensitive scalps and are free of the natural aroma ingredients in other Kavella products. They do include coconut-derived ingredients. Do you ship outside the United States?
